He holds a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics from East China Normal University, a Master's degree in Applied Statistics from the American University, and a Doctorate in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Cheng currently serves as a Senior Research Mathematical Statistician at the National Agricultural Statistics Service, a position he has held since 2020. In addition to this role, he has been an Adjunct Professor of Statistics at George Washington University since 2014, where he shares his expertise with the next generation of statisticians. His professional journey also includes a tenure as a Senior Mathematical Statistician at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration from 2019 to 2020. Previously, Dr. Cheng spent over a decade at the U.S. Census Bureau, where he served as Lead Scientist and Branch Chief for several key surveys, including the Current Population Survey, the American Time Use Survey, and the Housing Vacancy Survey.
