Dr. Phil Kott has been on the NISS Board of Trustees since 2011. Kott is a senior research statistician at RTI International's Center of Excellence for Complex Data Analysis. He is an expert in survey sampling theory and practice, including calibration weighting, multiphase sampling, the analysis of survey data, and variance estimation.Kott earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1974. He received his Master's degree in Economics, and Ph.D. in Mathematical Economics, from Brown University.Previously, Kott worked at National Agricultural Statistics Services and the U.S. Census Bureau. He also worked at the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Energy Information Administration before starting working at RTI International.As a fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), Kott has served as chair of both the ASA's Survey Research Methods Section and Council of Chapters as well as president of the Washington Statistical Society.Kott received a Presidential Rank Award in 2007 and an ASA Section of Statistics and the Environment Distinguished Achievement Medal in 1997.
