Markus Abt currently holds a position as Deputy Head of Statistics for Inflammation and Infectious Diseases at F. Hoffmann La-Roche AG in Basel, Switzerland. While serving as a NISS postdoc from 1996 – 1997, he developed sequential strategies to identify lead compounds in large chemical databases with minimal testing.
As native of Germany, Markus completed his undergraduate and masters studies at the University of Augsburg in 1988, where he majored in mathematics and economics. Under the continued tutelage of Professor Dr. Friedrich Pukelsheim, he continued his studies in Augsburg, earning his Ph.D. in 1991 for his thesis on “A Bayesian approach for the stochastic analysis of computer experiments.”
Since his time with NISS, Markus has made numerous contributions to the field of medical Statistics and Biostatistics. His most recent statistical article was “Sequentially Updating the Likelihood of Success of a Phase 3 Pivotal Time-To-Event Trial based on Interim Analyses or External Information,” published in November 2014 in the Journal of Biopharmaceutical Statistics.
