George Williams joined Amgen in August, 2002 as Vice President, Biostatistics and Epidemiology at Amgen. He is currently Vice President of Global Biomedical Data Sciences which consists of the biostatistics, epidemiology, statistical programming, and clinical data management functions.

Previously, George was Vice President, Biostatistics and Programming, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. He joined BMS in December, 2001 having retired from the position of Senior Vice President, Biostatistics and Research Data Systems, Merck Research Laboratories. George was at Merck from 1991 to 2001. From 1980 to 1991, George was the founding Chairman of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and from 1972 to 1980 he was on the faculty of the Department of Biostatistics, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
He obtained his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1972, his Masters in statistics at George Washington University, and his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Bucknell University.

George has served as Vice President of the American Statistical Association, President of the Society for Clinical Trials, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Institute of Statistical Sciences. He is a Fellow of the ASA, the Society for Clinical Trials, the American College of Epidemiology, and the American Heart Association. He has served as a member of the ENAR Regional Committee and as a member of several NIH review committees and data and safety monitoring boards.
