Dr. Joel A. Dubin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, and the School of Public Health and Health Systems, University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, ON, Canada, where he has been since 2005. He also serves as Associate Chair, Research, in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science. Earlier, he was an Assistant Professor in the Division of Biostatistics, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, at Yale University, from 2000-05. Joel received his Ph.D. in Statistics in 2000, from the University of California, Davis, under the supervision of Dr. Hans-Georg Müller. Prior to entering his Ph.D. program in 1996, Joel worked in biostatistics, including 1994-96 at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, after earning a Masters in Applied Statistics from Villanova University in 1993. He grew up in the sleepy Philadelphia suburb of Cherry Hill, NJ.His current research interests emphasize developing methodology for the analysis of complex longitudinal data, and prediction modeling, across a number of health application areas. He has supervised or co-supervised four Ph.D. students, and is currently supervising/co-supervising four additional Ph.D. students. He has also supervised 11 Masters students. He is co-leader of the University of Waterloo Health Data Science Lab.Since 2012, Joel has served on the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) Board as Ontario Representative. For the SSC, he has also served as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee in 2013-14; and, currently, as a member of the Fundraising Committee since 2015. In addition, Joel served as a Regional Advisory Board Member for ENAR of the International Biometric Society from 2012-14. His time as a Board of Trustees member of NISS began in 2015.
