SAPW 2024 Virtual Workshop, September 11-12, 2024
This virtual Seasonal Adjustment Practicioner's Workshop that will be held on September 11th (1pm to 4:30pm EDT) and September 12th (9am to Noon EDT). The American Statistical Association's Government Statistics Section, Business and Economics Statistics Section, and the Washington Statistical Society have provided support for the workshop.
We are planning two types of contributed sessions for presenters to give a talk or software demonstration: regular sessions of about 15-20 minutes, or lightning sessions of about 7 minutes. Presenters may choose to give both a talk and a software demonstration.
Talks may cover any subject relating to seasonal adjustment and related time series methodology or the process of seasonal adjustment and time series estimation at a statistical organization. We are particularly interested in talks that:
-
- share experiences in producing seasonal adjustments,
- give details of interesting problems and possible solutions,
- discuss best practices in seasonal adjustment, trend estimation, time series modeling, benchmarking/reconciliation,
- share lessons learned, tips, and shortcuts,
- present applied research in the practice of time series estimation.
Software demonstrations may be demonstrations of a new program or package related to seasonal adjustment and related time series methodology or a novel application of existing software.
In addition, this year we are seeking presentations that deal with new and evolving methodologies in areas such as:
-
- high-frequency data applications,
- combining time series data sources (blended data),
- change-of-regime testing, and
- handling breaks in time series.
Abstracts should be less than 100 words in length. Abstract submissions are due by August 22nd, 2024 to esmd.seasonal.workshop@census.gov with the subject "SAPW 2024 Abstract".
For general registration, email esmd.seasonal.workshop@census.gov with the subject "SAPW 2024 Attendee".
Registration ends on September 5th. There is no charge for participation. You will be sent more details on how to access the workshop closer to the date of the event.
If you do not receive a confirmation email within two business days of registering or if there is a lapse in US government funding, contact bmonsell@nsrsolutions.com and specify whether you are submitting an abstract or attending the workshop.
Presentations from previous workshops can be found on the Government Statistics Section website at https://community.amstat.org/governmentstatisticssection/conferences/pastconference210
You have the option to submit a prerecorded presentation for inclusion in the program – email esmd.seasonal.workshop@census.gov for more details. We hope this option will allow you to participate even if the workshop time is incompatible with your time zone or if you will be away from the office during the event.
We are committed to making this workshop a development opportunity for newer employees with seasonal adjustment responsibilities as well as those who are more experienced.
We look forward to your submission. Please feel free to share this with others in your organization who would be interested in participating in this workshop.
