This workshop is organized with one full day focused on substantive problems that motivate the development of agent-based modeling and on formal characterization of agent-based modeling by those working in the field and by statisticians with specialized experience. The following day is a working meeting - highly interactive, including both domain experts and mathematical scientists, and restricted in size so that all participants are fully engaged in characterization of high-priority open problems for both theory and methodology. The output of these working groups will be a white paper that identifies/outlines key open issues for statistical/mathematical/computational development and to subjecting this draft to critique by substantive area experts as well as statisticians.
