Internship Opportunities for Graduate Students

The NISS Graduate Student Network and the NISS Academic Affiliates are excited to announce a special 2-hour event about internship opportunities for graduate students.

Panelists will share information about internship opportunities from their industries and also discuss the job description/qualifications/requirements for these types of positions. In addition, this event has been organized such that it occurs before the deadlines for internship applications from these companies.

If you are thinking about a future internship experience as part of your graduate studies then this event is for you!

About the Speakers

Sneha Chatterjee is a Data Science Manager at Google, focused on Google Maps. Sneha joined Google in 2012 as a Data Scientist after completing her MS in Applied Statistics and Informatics from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. She has worked in different product areas in Google during her 9+ years including Trust & Safety, Google Cloud and Google Maps. She is passionate about leveraging data to make better products for users.

Rob Baker is Director of Data Science & Artificial Intelligence at Procter & Gamble in Mason, OH. Through his 30+ years with P&G Rob has led groups in a wide range of areas including clinical trials, consumer research and quality control. His current group has responsibility for Corporate Functions R&D supporting all of P&G’s businesses. Rob holds a Master’s degree in Statistics from Purdue and a Bachelor’s in Mathematics from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Qing Ji is a statistician in the Advanced Consumer Modeling and Statistics at P&G. He joined P&G in 2020 after finishing his Ph.D in Statistics at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Ji supports consumer research and product development teams within R&D at P&G. He also has Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Miami University.

Jonathan Legare is a Data Science Practice Leader and Vice President at Fidelity Investments, a leading financial services provider and investment management company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. At Fidelity, he leads and contributes to multidisciplinary projects and research areas including machine learning, natural language processing, statistics, algorithms, simulations, and experimental designs. For the past several years, Jonathan has supervised, guided, and mentored students through Fidelity's summer and co-op internship programs. He completed undergraduate studies in mathematics and earned master's degrees in statistics and business administration from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

John Palcza joined Merck in 2005 as a biostatistician in the Clinical Pharmacology Statistics department. Over the course of his 16+ year career as a pharmaceutical industry biostatistician, he has supported clinical trials in various therapeutic areas (neuroscience, infectious disease, oncology, diabetes, cardiovascular) across all phases of development (I/II/III), with experience in filing Investigational New Drug (IND) and New Drug Applications (NDA). He currently manages a group of six statisticians in the Early Clinical Development Statistics group at Merck supporting Translational Pharmacology.

Jan Vlachy is a Senior Data Scientist in Google. Jan works in the YouTube Data Science team, supporting the YouTube Responsibility efforts. He has also previously worked as a data scientist in Google Indexing Infrastructure and is an alumnus of the Data Science for Social Good Fellowship. Jan earned his PhD in Operations Research and MS in Statistics from Georgia Institute of Technology, his MS in Mathematics from Universiteit Utrecht, and BS in Mathematics from Charles University in Prague. While in Google, Jan has supervised four internship projects, and he is excited about the new perspectives that interns bring. He had also been lucky to have been an intern several times himself in various industries.

BriAnna Walker is the Senior Internship Program and Communications Specialist at RTI International, University Collaboration Office. She has expertise in event design and marketing, program management, and organizational performance. Ms. Walker’s professional and volunteer experience includes corporate, university, and community relations. Her industry background encompasses radio and television broadcasting, communication technology, pharmaceutical and medical engineering, and supply chain consulting. Ms. Walker has been recognized for her achievements in program management and community partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Ms. Walker holds a BA in English from Winston-Salem State University and a MA in communication from Queens University of Charlotte. She believes partnerships between corporate, university, and community organizations dynamically shape the world we live in.
