Total Survey Error (TSE) enthusiasts are invited to submit an abstract to the 2017 edition of the International Total Survey Error Workshop (ITSEW). The workshop will take place at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nuremberg, Germany, from Monday 12 June – Wednesday 14 June, 2017.
This workshop is aimed at statisticians, survey managers and methodologists, pollsters, public opinion researchers, and marketing research professionals focused on survey quality and the challenges of combined data products. Through presentations and exchange of information the workshop aims to support a better understanding of total survey error.
The theme of the 2017 workshop is Total Survey Error: Combined data products from a TSE perspective.
In addition to traditional TSE topics, we are encouraging contributions on:
· Total error frameworks for Big Data, integrated data sets and products
· “Total statistical uncertainty” frameworks for estimates derived from nonprobability samples
· Statistical disclosure limitation error
· Uses of administrative data to reduce TSE
· Methods for addressing specification errors in integrated data sets
· Illuminating the Big Data ETL process black box
Please submit an abstract to ITSEW2017@IAB.DE by February 26, 2017. Please indicate whether you would like to present a paper or a poster. Presentations on research still in progress are highly encouraged. Be prepared to share a (preliminary) paper with the organizers prior to the workshop so that all attendees can prepare for discussion.
Applicants will be notified of the acceptance of their abstracts by the end of March 2017.
Agenda
The workshop will begin Monday, June 12 around 9 o’clock in the morning. The workshop will end on Wednesday, June 14 around noon.
Following the end of the main workshop on Wednesday, there will be a mini-workshop on Alternative Survey Interviewing Techniques: Best Practices Suggested by the Literature. This mini-workshop will be organized by Brady T. West, Frederick G. Conrad (University of Michigan-Ann Arbor), and Frauke Kreuter (University of Maryland-College Park, University of Mannheim, and IAB). It is open to all attendees of the ITSEW. The workshop will start after lunch on Wednesday and end in the afternoon around 5 o’clock.
