About NISS Academic Affiliates Program

The National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS) is a national organization that works on issues related to information and quantitative analysis. The NISS Academic Affiliates are part of the broader NISS Affiliates Program, which brings together professionals from academia, industry, and government/national labs. The goal is to foster collaboration in statistics, data science, and related fields, supporting research, information dissemination, professional development, and networking. Through these activities, the NISS Academic Affiliates play a vital role in advancing data-driven solutions for business, government, and society while benefiting from a diverse and rich network of professionals:
  1. Access to Professional Development: Affiliates can participate in workshops, meet-ups, and events on emerging topics in statistics and data science, providing opportunities for growth and learning.
  2. Collaboration and Networking: The program offers a platform for academic institutions to connect with peers from industry and government, enabling joint problem-solving and exploration of new methods and tools.
  3. Customized Opportunities: Affiliates can leverage existing NISS events or propose new initiatives to address their unique institutional challenges, from solving specific statistical problems to improving career development for data science professionals.
  4. Event Co-Sponsorship: Affiliates are involved in planning and co-sponsoring conferences, workshops, and other academic activities, enriching the slate of offerings for the entire NISS community.

New Researchers Network

The goal of the NISS New Researchers Network is to create connections among undergraduate and graduate students from different academic institutions and early-career professionals within the NISS Affiliates Program. The NISS New Researchers Network fosters collaboration and support among early-career statisticians, graduate students and undergraduate students offering resources and opportunities for professional growth. Some of our activities include:

Under this network, activities are organized to help new researchers tackle challenges of graduate programs and help with their future careers. Students can share their experiences regarding their programs or an internship they did, and webinars and workshops can be organized around topic(s) of interest to them. In addition, we hope that this network will be beneficial throughout the student's career even after they graduate from their programs!
